Silver Mine in Potosi, Bolivia

While I was in Potosi, Bolivia last year, I visited a famous mine, Cerro Rico, where vast quantity of silver was found. Tragically, 8 million Bolivians also died working there under 300 years of Spanish colonisation. My guide brought us down and through narrow paths, barely enough for a body to crawl. It was a difficult and humbling experience as we chatted with miners who continue to work there today to eke out a living, or for some, betting on striking a fortune.
